I can honestly say that today was a draining day. Whether
that is due to the fact that I didn’t sleep well last night or because I had a
lot going on at work, or a combination of both, I don’t know.
For fieldwork, I am working on running several groups,
designing and running my own group, and I had to pick a patient to have a
one-on-one with. Today I worked with a lot of personality disorders and
psychosis (where people are responding to internal stimulation such as voices
in their heads). It just gets very mentally exhausting sometimes.
I have to refresh my spirit.
I have to refresh my spirit.
Some ways I do that are reading my Bible, specifically this
passage that my mom reminded me about.
Isaiah 61
“The Spirit of the Lord God is on Me,
because the Lord has anointed Me
to bring good news to the poor.
He has sent Me to heal the brokenhearted,
to proclaim liberty to the captives
and freedom to the prisoners;
2 to proclaim the year of the Lord’s favor,
and the day of our God’s vengeance;
to comfort all who mourn,
3 to provide for those who mourn in Zion;
to give them a crown of beauty instead of ashes,
festive oil instead of mourning,
and splendid clothes instead of despair.
And they will be called righteous trees,
planted by the Lord
to glorify Him.

On a positive note on today, I am starting to build a good connection with my 1:1 patient, which is absolutely fabulous and encouraging! I also played checkers and had some very interesting conversations.

It is such a learning experience, and even though I feel
exhausted today, I will get recharged and go back in there tomorrow with a
smile on my face. I will play checkers with the men. I will smile and listen to
the people who talk non-stop. I will laugh and talk. I will spread joy and
smiles. And it will be good.
