Adios, California

After a few weeks of praying, thinking, and soul searching, I have decided to leave California and move back to Pennsylvania when Christmas break starts for my kids here.

Even though I fought it at first (and occasionally throughout my time here), I am so thankful for the time I have spent in California.
  • I have been challenged in my faith and trusting of God. Learning to rely on Him more fully.
  • I have made wonderful friends (and now adopted family) and been a part of amazing communities of Jesus-loving people.
  • I have given opportunities for community outreach. My favorite being the community house I have volunteered with to spend time with kids after school.
  • I have gained confidence in my abilities as a therapist.
  • Working with kids is totally my thing. My kids here have been great and I have loved working with them. They have taught me to completely appreciate Kids who have special needs and their parents. They have taught me love, patience, and they make me laugh with their antics and brutal honesty. “You look not pretty today” and “I know your name is Miss Elizabeth, but I’m going to call you Ms. OT!”
  • I have treasured alone time and spending a majority of time in my apartment. I have learned more about myself and solidified some dreams and desires that I want to pursue.
  • I have explored Southern California – Santa Barbara, Palmdale/Lancaster, Carlsbad, San Diego.
  • I have learned that I love having my family and support system close by.
  • I have learned to see beauty in things that don’t seem beautiful at first. I don’t like the desert during the day, but desert sunsets and nights, be still, my heart! The sun paints watercolors across the sky, and when night falls, the stars dance.

I am so thankful. As I sit here and write, I feel bittersweet…(I can’t believe I’m ever saying that about leaving California! ;) ) But it has been good.

I don’t know what all is unfolding for me in Pennsylvania, but I know that the Author of my story is turning another page. I am so incredibly excited to see what opportunities come up! I don’t have a job lined up yet, but I will be starting a Bible study in January.

**Also, because I have been terrible about blogging while out here, here is a photo summary**

Visit to Carlsbad to see Ms. Julie, a dazzling family friend!

Celebrating part of my heritage at a Polish Festival! It was really fun...Until I got cornered by a creepy guy telling me about sperm donation and who had no personal space boundaries...
I am so thankful for friends who rescue me!

Mission style courtyard in Old Town

Halloween outreach party!
This funny fellow (the grandson of friends) kept insisting I wear his tourist hat because,
"Anybody can wear a football jersey, but not everyone can wear a football jersey and wear this hat!"
I can't argue with that logic!

And of course, road trips up to Vegas
Downtown Container Park with Alicia!

Right after we did the zipline!

Desert sunsets!

  1. Oh, Elizabeth! In the words of Alexander Graham Bell, "What hath God wrought"? Excited for your return and praying that His guiding hand continues to move you onward and upward in your journey. Blessings!
