Popcorn Thoughts - You Have to Start Somewhere

When you make popcorn on a stove (or in a machine), there is that moment that all kernels break loose and start popping all over the place. Dozens at a time. Faster than you can count.

99% of the time, that's how my brain is - spitting out thoughts, ideas, and creativity all over the place, just like popcorn!

My beloved sister and dear linear-minded friends often express exasperation, and sometimes awe, for my thought-life craziness and the way I constantly express things.

I, however, have gotten used to it and have learned to just catch them as fast as I can. I'm still learning how to sort them though, but ehh, that can come after I catch them!

I love the verses in Psalms 139:17-18. The Message Bible states them beautifully -
"Your thoughts—how rare, how beautiful!
    God, I’ll never comprehend them!
I couldn’t even begin to count them—
any more than I could count the sand of the sea."

God is constantly streaming thoughts towards us. We just need to learn to catch them.

If you struggle catching your popcorn thoughts, here are some tips.

1. Write them down!
It doesn't matter how random you think your thoughts are, God might be trying to teach you something or give you an idea.

2. Just because you write it down does not mean you have to do anything with it. Sometimes thoughts are just for you to ponder for a bit then release.

3. Have friends you can bounce ideas and thoughts off of - ones who roll with your punches and don't judge your crazy mind too harshly. Creative conversations inspire increased creativity.

Have fun with it!

That's the main reason I changed my blog format - because I'm in a "popcorn" season of life and I want to continue catching as many thoughts and ideas as I can!
