Dead Stump: New Life.

The Dead Stump

It sits. Rotting. Decaying. Dead.
A mere shell of its former glory.
Uneven layers peeled away - the heart exposed.
Perhaps the circumstance that brought it there was harsh.
Disease.
A swing of the ax.
A fire.
A storm.
Or perhaps weariness overtook it until it could not hold the weight any longer.
Providing rest no more - No shade. No stability. Sadness.

But, look close!
A tiny green maple shoot sprouts around it.
Ants scurry up and down carrying food.
Whispy cobweb homes dance in the gentle breeze.
Moss covers,
young, but growing.

Bittersweet.
The tree had to die.
No longer a shortage of resources,
new life flourishes.
Soaking up the water and basking in the sun.
It looks different.
Tiny. Fragile.
But there.
Being. Emerging.

The stump serves its purpose.
Then and now.

Look closer!
Anticipate what is coming.
Let the sunshine fill the created space.

Joy.

"Do not remember the past events, pay no attention to the things of old. Look, I am about to do something new; even now it is coming. Do you not see it? I will make a way in the wilderness, rivers in the desert." - Isaiah 43:18-19

I journaled this 2 years ago. Then I saw this stump on Sunday.
